This page is presented as a piece of history. I will comment little on it and leave most of that to others whose links are presented on this page. The re-created pages are an attempt to present the DARPA - IAO page as close to the original as I can get. While very similar to their current page, they have removed the large logo, the personnel (biography) page and recently change the word total to terrorrist. I suggest that you read it carefully and the biographies of the men behind it, think about what they are trying to do and then start checking on the more complete biographies and the comments linked here. Storytelling is also defined as lying(look it up). Truth maintenance sounds very much like the Orwell novel 1984 and its Ministry of Truth. Check especially on Admiral John Poindexter (of Iran-Contra) and on the Programs called Total Information Awareness (TIA) System and Human ID at a Distance (HID). Look at the number of programs looking to do language translation by machine, and think how really hard this is and the consequence of a wrong translation. A small example of translation problem: saying in Japanese a 100 watt light bulb in a bathroom is basically saying a waste. My only other comment is the fourth admendment:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses,
papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures,
shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon
probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and
particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons
or things to be seized.

The DARPA acronym has only change three times. A record low for most government agencies. And it has acutally had only two. ARPA being the other. created as 1958-ARPA 1972-DARPA 1993-ARPA 1996-DARPA
The meaning is: (Defense) Advanced Research Projects Agency
One of the projects led to the internet and it was called ARPAnet. It was NOT design for war conditions as many have said but rather for communications with and amoung the universities with government contract projects. E-mail was one of the first applications. GPS (Global Positioning System) was another project with more direct military applications. Many projects are created out in the open and in fact now promoted on their web site. Some of this, of course, may be the hide in plain site concept. Some might be dis-information. One persistent rumor is mind control. This was even use as part of a fictional TV drama. It might be there out in the open but of course would not be called mind control. It might never have existed. What is there we should look at and think about are the ramifications as if each of the in the open projects are real. The Information Awarness Office is just one of these.
